I’ll be honest with you: I’m not great at taking vacation. Like a lot of people in this industry, I tend to let PTO stack up and then scramble to use it — or roll it over — at year’s end. That’s exactly what happened this time.
Coming back this time, I had the kind of clarity that only distance can give you. And what I saw when I looked at where Samet stands — and where we’re headed — gave me genuine energy.

DBIA Award of Excellence / PCEC
Samet and joint venture partner M. Edwards Group earned a DBIA Award of Excellence for the Guilford County Schools Professional and Community Education Center (PCEC) — recognition from the Design-Build Institute of America that speaks to the power of integrated project delivery done right.
The 70,396 SF, three-story facility at Gateway Research Park was completed in 21 months for $38 million, serving students, families, educators, and GCS staff through classrooms, maker spaces, tutoring areas, and professional development facilities. The project was delivered 13 days ahead of schedule, achieved LEED Silver certification, and carried a 48.7% MWBE participation rate — all while coordinating a complex, multi-stakeholder environment that included NC A&T, UNC Greensboro, and Guilford County Schools.
CPN star award / claxton elementary school
Samet took home a CPN Star Award for our work on Claxton Elementary School, and it’s a win that reflects the full team’s dedication from day one.
As the first of six new schools to be completed under Guilford County Schools’ $2 billion voter-approved bond initiative, Claxton set the standard for the entire program. The 91,840 SF facility replaced the district’s lowest-ranked building — a deteriorating 1960s-era structure — with a state-of-the-art campus serving 700 PreK–5th grade students. The project was completed with zero safety incidents across 17,922 man-hours, and the team achieved an exceptional 44% MWBE participation rate despite no formal requirement.
Beyond the building itself, Claxton has become a cornerstone of its community — a source of neighborhood pride and a model for what’s possible when a county invests in its students.

Samet was proud to join Goodwill Industries of Central North Carolina, Inc. (Triad Goodwill) to celebrate the groundbreaking of their new Regional Operations Center (ROC) in Greensboro, NC — a facility that will power their mission for the next 30 years.

We celebrated a major Topping Out milestone on our Glynn County Fire Station 5 project at Brunswick Airport (BQK). This 8,500-square-foot Airport Rescue Firefighting (ARFF) facility is being built to serve both the airport and the surrounding community.

Ribbon cut! We’re proud to celebrate the completion of Cambro Building II in Mebane, NC — a 381,000 SF industrial warehouse facility featuring 5,000 SF of office space and a fully improved truck court and parking area.

GDS SLEI Ribbon Cutting
We had the honor of celebrating the ribbon cutting of the SLEI Center at Greensboro Day School. From maker spaces and robotics labs to a wellness center and ceramics studio, the space is built to inspire the next generation.
