How can Samet Associates help the Women@Work ERG?
Samet associates play a key role in supporting and strengthening the W@W Employee Resource Group (ERG) by fostering a more inclusive, engaged, and productive workplace. This includes actively participating in meetings, events, and volunteer opportunities; promoting allyship; raising awareness by sharing ERG initiatives; and offering suggestions to enhance ERG’s efforts. Associates are encouraged to provide leadership support, advocate for necessary resources, and integrate ERG goals into their daily work. These actions collectively help align our efforts with broader organizational objectives and drive meaningful cultural and business impact.
Why are PTPs (Pre-Task Planning) so important?
We are often asked the following…”We do the same task every day, why do we have to have to fill and review a daily pre-task plan?”
The answer is simple… in our industry, more specifically on a construction project, conditions change frequently. Whether other trades or activities taken place near our work area, change in crew members , weather factors, or even the urgency to complete task. All these conditions must be taken into account when planning for a safe execution of a high-risk task.
Our Pre-Task Plan format enables crew leaders to identify and list the following key aspects, which must be reviewed and acknowledged by every crew member carrying out the work;
- Details and location of activity being performed – Key to know what conflicts or coordination may be required
- Activity Sequence- Listing the sequence will enable crew members to identify key hazards and controls needed to execute each step safely and effectively
- Hazard Identification and Mitigation Strategy – This is the most important aspect of a PtP process and often the biggest opportunity for improvement due to the information being lacking or too generic. Crews must clearly understand the hazards involved and what they must implement to control the hazards. This includes specific resources, tools, materials, and training. Some identified hazards, such as possible soil disturbance will require additional administrative/planning steps like pulling an “Excavation Permit”.
In summary putting together an clear and concise PtP will maximize the safe and successful execution of a high risk task by ensuring that each crew member understands the steps, the risks involved and have a clear understanding of how to mitigate the risks. Important to note that often conditions change, and this case the crew must re-evaluate the conditions and review/update the plan.
Samet field associates must are key facilitators in ensuring this is effectively and consistently implemented of every project. If additional information or training is needed please reach out to our EH&S Team and will be glad to provide further support to our project teams.
Remember “Planning the Job” is a key fundamental of our Samet Way delivery!
